Kevin Murphy: Head Back Down Under For Myer SS'15 Fashion Parade

KEVIN MURPHY HEADS BACK TO THE AUSSIE RUNWAY
TO STYLE THE MYER SPRING SUMMER 15 FASHION LAUNCH PARADE

Global hair editorial guru, Kevin Murphy, is heading back home to Australia to direct the hair for the Myer SS15 Fashion Launch Parade.

The much-anticipated event will be held at Carriageworks in Sydney on Thursday 7 August, showcasing the latest looks in fashion, hair and make-up to a VIP audience.

This year will feature the latest designer labels to join the Myer family, including, By Johnny, Little Joe Woman and L by Lisa Ho, with acclaimed fashion designer, Alex Perry, opening the show. The event will also see the Face of Myer, Jennifer Hawkins, walk the runway, as well as Myer Ambassadors Kris Smith and Kate Peck.

Assisted by a team of 24 Session.Stylists, Murphy will be responsible for the creation and execution of the hairstyles of the parade’s female and male models, with James Nicholson and Nathan Gorman at the helm as co-hair directors. The hair look will see pops of pastels incorporated, including candy pinks and purples, baby blue, lemon and mint green, with the aim of amplifying the depth of colour in the SS15 Collection as well as complementing the soft makeup look.

“I’m very excited to be working with Myer on this prestigious event for the sixth season,” says Murphy.

“Spring Summer collections are always playful and colourful, so it really is a time when we can experiment with hair on the runway, which I’m looking forward to.”

INSPIRATION
“We wanted the hair look to be whimsical and romantic, taking inspiration from water and the ocean”
“Soft pastels and hair colour is really the trend of the season, but we wanted the look to be classic still, so the style of the hair has notes of the 190s and 1940s”

Step 3: Loosely braid both sides back toward the nape
Step 4: Stitch with hair elastic, rolling up away from hairline, toward the nape. The aim is to create a Katharine Hepburn silhouette
Step 5: Once the style has been created, apply Fresh.Hair ($32.95) and White.Bug ($24.95) liberally until 'Marie Antoinette' white hair is achieved, then seal with Session.Spray ($29.95)

HT: Create Chic, Short Hair. Tips From Kevin Murphy

HOW TO CREATE A CHIC, SHORT STYLE: TIPS FROM HAIR GURU KEVIN MURPHY

The short cut is back and it’s time to take the plunge. The 2014 do’ is edgy, feminine and playful and has taken over Hollywood, with the likes of Karlie Kloss, Beyonce, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Coco Roch opting for a dramatic new look. We’ve even seen Supermodel Gisele Bündchen rock a faux buzz cut for the latest Balenciaga campaign, if that’s not statement enough – shorter hair is in!
International hair guru Kevin Murphy says in order for the look to be modern, this cut-of-the-moment should sit just above the shoulders, be chunky and full of volume.

“The more structured clothing that is in fashion today suits a short cut better than long hair.  Emphasis is now on the waist and the shoulders and with this comes high necklines. These pieces look better when the hair is away from the neck.”

Please see below for some tips from Kevin Murphy:

· The look should be loose, casual and understated. Heavy overgrown fringes with blunt textured edges will make it a bit soft and rock’n’roll but also low key

· Keeping the layers really long is best as this gives the hair a ‘lived in’ look

· Scared of getting the chop? For women afraid to make the dramatic move to cut off their hair, then try the faux bob

· Faking a bob is super easy, just style a low pony tail and tuck the tail up and under before securing with a pin. Pull some hair out around your face as this will give the appearance of short hair
Murphy also says that using the right products is vital to ensure this style looks great. The best styling products are lotions and creams that allow the hair to be moisturised but still absorb and remove the frizz, while enhancing the curl.

To maintain the look, Kevin Murphy recommends the following products:

KM_Motion.Lotion150ml.jpg
KEVIN.MURPHY MOTION.LOTION – RRP $32.95

Treats nuisance fly-aways while protecting hair from harsh UV rays. A light grooming lotion that also works as a sunscreen and can be worn at the beach, on the dance floor.
KEVIN.MURPHY HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY – RRP $34.95

The ultimate product to create sexy, textured hair all year long. A weightless mist that makes perfectly undone beach hair more effortless than ever. Works as a thickener for fine to medium hair and is part foundation, part finishing product.

KEVIN.MURPHY FRESH.HAIR – RRP $32.95

Actively cleans the hair while giving body and texture; the formulation removes excess oil and odours.

KEVIN.MURPHY LUXURY.WASH – RRP $32.95

A super rich, moisturising shampoo for dry or damaged, thick or coarse hair. Extracts of Peruvian Bark, Orange Blossom and Myrtle add moisture to colour treated hair to keep it protected from further damage.
KEVIN.MURPHY LUXURY.RINSE – RRP $33.95

A high performance deep conditioner for coarse, coloured and dry/damaged hair. Silk proteins and amino acids rebuild damaged hair while mango butter moisturises coloured hair.

HAIR By KEVIN HURPHY - 10 Years

KEVIN.MURPHY CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH LAUNCH OF BOOK, ‘HAIR BY KEVIN MURPHY’

To celebrate 10 years since launching his line of eponymous hair products, internationally renowned styling god, Kevin Murphy, has launched a limited edition book ‘Hair, By Kevin Murphy’.

A master of his profession, no one understands the power of transformative hair better than Kevin Murphy. Murphy’s impressive career spans more than three decades, during which time he has established himself as an industry icon and a hair master of fashion runway, editorial and film. His work has graced major Australian and global print publications including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, marie claire, Elle, Instyle, GQ and more.

The book is a collection of memories and milestones, celebrating some of Murphy’s best work. It features inspiring campaign imagery, magazine editorial and a snapshot of some of his favourite products and packaging.

This collection of pictures celebrates 10 years of inspiration and innovation, driven by my desire to provide the products and tools needed to create those special moments yourself,” said Kevin Murphy.

Proceeds generated by the book will be donated to the ‘Culture Is Life’ foundation, a charity close to Murphy’s heart which aims to support community driven initiatives to deliver effective solutions to Indigenous suicide.

Indigenous Australians now have one of the highest rates of youth suicide in the world, and their loss of cultural identity and spiritual connection they once held with the land and environment are key drivers for this tragic statistic.

Through KEVIN.MURPHY and the brand’s financial support for Culture is Life, strong Indigenous community-led solutions are being voiced and heard.

Inspired by nature, the KEVIN.MURPHY range of washes, rinses, treatments and styling products is the ultimate indulgence for your hair – a way to combine high fashion runway looks with the added benefits of beautiful natural ingredients.

Top Tips From Kevin Murphy

TACKLE HUMIDITY HEAD-ON: TOP TIPS FROM HAIR GURU KEVIN MURPHY

With the change in seasons and cold, wet days becoming more frequent, your hair can start to suffer and have a mind of its own. But don’t fear – international hair master Kevin Murphy has some tips on how to prep your hair to handle the humidity as best you can.

“On humid days, what you put in your hair and what you keep in your handbag are as important as how you style it, never leave home without your dry shampoo or powdered texturiser, they are your best friend on damp days” says Murphy.

“The most painless way to deal with humidity is to go with a low maintenance hairstyle. For the very humid days, go for a sleek ponytail, a bun or a messy plait. Try and use products that don’t contain too much moisture as this only attracts more moisture.”

“You can create a loose messy braid and go for the modern milk maid look.”

Murphy also recommends keeping your hair off the shoulders and neck so the movement created from the damp air looks intentional, FRESH.HAIR and POWDER.PUFF work perfectly for a fresh, tousled, ‘weather friendly’ style.

“If you have thick hair, go with wavy or curly hairstyles. Humidity is great for creating curl, just use a light lotion and stay away from heavy moisturisers and waxes. Lightweight products and lotions work best in humidity, and if you want a style with volume, you can create it by teasing at the roots,” explains Murphy.

There are a few tools Kevin Murphy recommends to fight the frizz during the change in seasons, which we’ve included below.
